Bath Ales starts brewing again – the best Bath pubs to enjoy a pint
29 July 2020Now that pubs in Bath are starting to reopen, one of the city’s best loved local businesses Bath Ales has restarted production of its award-winning draught beer.
Bath Ales has been running a popular online shop, shipping out bottles, cans and micro-casks to thirsty Bath residents and nationwide. But since the announcement that pubs in England could reopen from 4th July 2020, the brewery has gradually been ramping up production of its draught beer.
Head brewer Georgina Young told the Bath Echo:
“I’m pleased to say that we are producing cask beer again, in anticipation of the long-awaited reopening of our great British pubs.
“We’re proud to be playing our part in the national effort to restock cellars with fresh beer.”
Where can I get a pint of Bath Ales in the city?
Not all are back open again following the COVID-19 lockdown, but there are still plenty of pubs in Bath to get yourself a pint of the good stuff. Here’s our rundown…
Graze Bath
Brunel Square
Graze Bar & Chophouse enjoys a brilliant position right next to Bath Spa train station. It’s the perfect spot for modern, hearty British food and of course, a fantastic selection of Bath Ales beer. It even has its own microbrewery on-site. Graze serves Gem, the brewery’s premium Amber Ale, plus its New World Pale Ale ‘Prophecy’ among others.
Graze Bath has reopened for business post-lockdown, and is participating in the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme. This means you can enjoy up to £10 per person off your meal (alcohol not included in the scheme).
The Hop Pole
Upper Bristol Road
A cosy, intimate pub in Lower Weston, The Hop Pole serves a wide and diverse selection of Bath Ales, plus draught beers, cask ales and ciders from further afield. You’ll often find the award-winning Gem on draught, plus a fantastic choice of wines and spirits. The pub boasts a secret courtyard beer garden, so it’s the perfect spot for a socially distanced pint in the sunshine.
The Hop Pole serves food too, from great British pub classics and irresistibly calorific ‘filthy burgers’, through to seasonal specials. Plus, it does a top-notch Sunday roast.
Stay at our Nile Mews House or Marmaduke House properties and you’ll be just down the road from the Hop Pole.
The Salamander
John Street
A traditional, snug city centre pub with bags of atmosphere, The Salamander has a fine selection of Bath Ales brews including Gem, Prophecy and the fresh, hoppy west-coast IPA Lansdown (named after the Bath suburb). You can also tuck into traditional pub dishes with your pint, enjoying your meal in a cosy corner, dining room or upstairs seating.
You’ll find The Salamander in the Georgian heart of the city centre, just around the corner from our charming Queen’s View apartment.
Other Bath Ales pubs
At the time of writing, The Griffin Inn – another Bath Ales pub – is closed for business. But fingers crossed it reopens soon!
And if you fancy a drive out of the city centre into the countryside, check out The Swan in Swineford. It’s another much-loved Bath Ales pub, just a 15-minute drive or taxi ride from Bath city centre.
