If you’ve got a birthday or other special occasion coming up, a spot of wine tasting in Bath is the ideal way to celebrate. It also makes for a great experience gift for a loved one, especially if they’re a wine lover. 

To help you plan your day out, here’s our guide to the best places to go wine tasting in Bath…

The Great Wine School 

Offering a choice of in-person and online wine courses, this is a partnership between the award-winning Bath wine merchant The Great Wine Co. and Bristol Wine School.   

If you’re looking to learn more about wine, meet like-minded people or just try something new, this is the ideal place to come. The school aims to “demystify the world of wine and wine tasting with hands-on learning and an unstuffy, entertaining and informed learning experience.”

Some of the most popular wine tasting courses in Bath include:

  • One Day Introduction to Wine – £90 per person
  • Taste of Italy – One Day Course – £95 per person
  • The Wines of France – One Day Course – £95 per person
  • Port Masterclass – £40 per person
  • Artisan Cheese & Wine Pairing – £40 per person.

Most courses are held at The Bird hotel in Bath, just around the corner from our gorgeous Vane Garden Flat and Edward St Apartment. 

Novel Wines

Novel Wines specialises in sourcing undiscovered, unique and exciting wines from around the world. It’s an online retailer stocking everything from delicious Eastern European wines to unique Hungarian dessert wines. 

The company also happens to have its very own wine shop in Bath, where it hosts a full calendar of wine tastings. This includes frequent Wine & Cheese Tasting nights, along with special events like the Novel Wines Annual Wine Tasting Party 2023. This will be held at the DoubleTree Hilton Bath on 23rd September 2023. You can book in for tastings on the Novel Wines website

You’ll find Novel Wines on Upper Bristol Road, a little further along from our beautiful Nile Mews House and Monmouth Mews townhouse.  

Wolf Wine

Innovative wine purveyors Wolf Wine stock a full range of vegan, organic and biodynamic wines. Wolf Wine also host special events of wine and cheese tastings, teaming up with local partners Jar’s Meze to pair their wines with cheese, charcuterie and other nibbles. You can also contact Wolf Wine to arrange private wine tastings, ideal for hen parties, birthdays and other celebrations. 

You’ll find Wolf Wine nestled in Green Park Station, just across the road from our Green Park Garden Apartment. This compact and characterful shop is well worth a visit simply to explore the many wild and wonderful bottles on the shelves. 

Corkage Bath

Much-loved Bath wine shop and restaurant Corkage holds special wine tastings throughout the year. You’ll need to keep an eye on their website blog and social media pages for details of the next one. But past events have included wine tasting with Oz Clarke at Topping & Company Booksellers, and most recently – an evening of Mediterranean wines with the legendary Steve Daniel from Hallgarten & Novum Wines.
