4 mindful, relaxing things to do in Bath this winter

11 December 2020

Heading into winter in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, it’s more important than ever to look after ourselves and our mental health.

If you’re looking to do a spot of self-care in Bath this December and January (and get out of the house at the same time), take a look below. We’ve put together a list of relaxing and mindful things to do in Bath:

  1. Book in for some pampering at the Thermae Bath Spa

The Thermae Bath Spa has reopened! While Bath remains in Tier 2 under the government’s COVID-19 measures, you can book in for a spa session and some pampering treatments.

If you’ve been working hard or simply need some self-care, a dip in the naturally warm waters of the Thermae Bath Spa could be just the ticket. Choose from a range of massages in the Thermae Revive package, or see the city’s twinkling lights at night from the heated rooftop pool with the Twilight Package.

Make sure you book well in advance to avoid disappointment, and remember that you can only attend with people from your household or support bubble.

  1. Hit the Bath Mindfulness Trail

From 11th to 17th January 2021, an extra special Mindfulness Trail is coming to Bath.  Organised by Artery.lab and with donations going to mental health charity Bath Mind, this week-long event is designed to guide you through a series of mindfulness exercises.

The trail will take place across different green spaces in Bath, to be announced nearer the time. It’s free to join in, and all you’ll need is a smartphone (with a data allowance so you can connect to the internet) and a pair of headphones.

According to the organisers:

“This trail is aimed to provide a day for people to spend alone with themselves, their senses, and feelings and organise their thoughts through simple mindfulness exercises.

“This event will provide mindfulness tools that can be taken away and applied in everyday life to help deal with distraction, stress and anxiety.”

  1. Join a local walking or photography group

Joining a group is a great way to motivate yourself to get out and walk more often. Bath not only has lots of fantastic walking routes and green spaces – it also has a number of active walking and photography groups. For example, The Happy Snappers, a Foxhill photography and walking group, or the Keynsham photography and walking group.

However, you’ll need to check out whether they’re running as normal due to COVID-19.

  1. Take a mindful moment in one of Bath’s beautiful green spaces

You don’t necessarily need to join a group or a class to take a moment for yourself. Sometimes, all you need to unwind and clear your head is to get back to nature. Bath has dozens of lush green spaces where you can get away from it all. Download this handy map of them all from Bath Mind (produced for World Mental Health Day) and follow the suggestions. For example, take a picnic, listen to a bird or get lost in a good book in a quiet spot.

If you’re planning a visit to Bath this winter, book yourself into one of our cosy, wonderfully comfortable apartments close to the city’s best green spaces.
