1 March 2022

If you’re a keen golfer with a plan to visit Bath soon, make sure you bring your clubs along. The area has a brilliant choice of golf courses, many of which make the most of Bath’s beautiful countryside setting.

Here’s our guide to the best golf courses in Bath and the surrounding areas:

Bowood PGA Golf Course

Under an hours’ drive from Bath city centre, the Bowood PGA Golf Course is part of the grand Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort. The course itself sits on a beautifully landscaped country estate, which spans over 2,000 acres in total.

It was designed by the renowned Dave Thomas and covers a whopping 7,309 yards. There are extensive facilities for practice and leisure on site, and there’s even a PGA Golf Academy if you need professional help to work on your swing.

The PGA Official Golf Course for the South West, Bowood is considered one of the best courses of its kind in Wiltshire. It’s even been voted one of the Top 50 Stay and Play resorts in the UK by Golf Monthly. If you’re a passionate golfer, this par 72 course is the real deal.

Bath Golf Club

One of the oldest 18-hole golf courses in the UK, Bath Golf Club enjoys a spectacular location at Sham Castle. It’s just outside the city centre, not far from our Darlington and Sydney Mews apartments.

It’s also one of the finest inland courses in England, spanning over 6,500 yards and making use of the natural contours of its hilltop site. This gives it lots of variety, challenge and of course, incredible views for miles around.

Lansdown Golf Club

Another course offering stunning views, Lansdown Golf Club is a parkland course just on the edge of the Cotswolds. It’s less than half an hours’ drive from Bath city centre, so it’s easy to reach.

Established in 1894, this well-conditioned par 71 course is around 6,445 yards in total, and is suitable for golfers of all levels. But while you’ll go for the golf, you’ll stay for those views – on a good day, you can see right across the Bristol Channel to the Brecon Beacons.

Victoria Falls Adventure Golf

If you’re looking for more of a family-friendly day out, or to have some fun while you practice, the 18-hole Victoria Falls Adventure Golf course could be just the ticket.

It’s wonderfully central, located in the beautiful Royal Victoria Park. The course is also picturesque and changes with the seasons, so time it right and you’ll be playing among pretty flowers, trees and streams.

It’s open year-round, from 10am until an hour before dark. There’s no need to book, so you can just turn up on the day.
