Other central places to try include The Bath Coffee Company and Boston Tea Party, both on Kingsmead Square within easy strolling distance from Bath Holiday Rentals’ Hot Bath apartment next to the Thermae Bath Spa.

Top pick for veggies

Whipping up quite the frenzy of foodie excitement in Bath for the last couple of years has been Acorn Vegetarian Kitchen on North Parade Passage. Serving up veggie-friendly food, described by a recent Telegraph review as “zingingly fresh”, a great pick at this dinky little restaurant is the small plates menu with its delicious mini dishes. Acorn is quite popular though, so it may be worth making a reservation in advance.

Classic afternoon tea

If you didn’t know already, Bath is the home of afternoon tea. It’s had a long tradition of sandwiches, scones and cake at 4 o’clock, and there are absolutely loads of places to indulge in a top quality afternoon tea in the city. If you’re looking for posh dining for a special occasion, The Olive Tree in the Queensberry Hotel is well recommended. It boasts high quality cooking and gorgeous presentation, as well as an award-winning wine list and a great atmosphere.

Must-try Bath specialities

If you’re visiting Bath, there are certain local specialties that you’d be mad not to try while you’re here. These include the Sally Lunn Bun, a light brioche-style bun you can try at Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House and Museum, and the Bath Bun available at the Bath Bun Tea Shoppe and the Hands Tearoom.

Visitors should also sample authentic Bath Olivers biscuits (they’re just not the same when not eaten in Bath itself), as well as Bath Chaps (pigs cheeks cured just like bacon) at the Garrick’s Head and Bath Gin at the Canary Gin Bar. If you love your cheese, fill your boots with Bath Brie, Bath Blue and Bath Soft at the Bath Farmer’s Market held every Saturday morning in Green Park Station.
