You can’t visit Bath’s incredible museums in person just at the moment, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have a sneaky peek inside. Many of Bath’s best cultural institutions are now offering virtual tours and other remote activities, so you can enjoy art, history and much more even during the coronavirus lockdown. 

We’ve put together a guide to some of the best virtual tours of museums and galleries in Bath, take a look…

1. The Roman Baths 

One of the best parts of visiting the Roman Baths, one of Bath’s most popular tourist attractions, is discovering all the tucked-away chambers and passageways. You can now explore it all on your own computer screen, with a virtual tour of the Roman Baths and Pump Room in 3D. 

This fully interactive tour uses the latest technology to give you unlimited access to the Roman Baths. You can manipulate the view, move around the facility, click on the circle tags for more information and even measure spaces if you feel so inclined. It’s all there, from the Great Bath and the Sacred Spring to the Roman Temple and all museum spaces. 

2. No.1 Royal Crescent 

The very first house on the iconic and majestic Royal Crescent is also a museum, offering a glimpse of life in eighteenth-century Bath. While No.1 is closed, you can still enjoy its spaces and collections in its ‘Museum from Home’ – a series of videos and images of The Parlour, Dining Room, Servant’s Hall, Lady’s Bedroom and much more.

Explore the current displays and exhibitions at your own leisure in a series of image galleries and guides. Highlights include portraits by Thomas Gainsborough in the Large Upper Gallery and works by Toulouse-Lautrec (until 26 May 2020) in the Large Lower Gallery. 

4. Bath Fashion Museum 

It’s not quite the same as visiting in person, but the 3D virtual tour of the Bath Fashion Museum and Assembly Rooms is the perfect way to spend some lockdown time. The collection is utterly fantastic, including iconic royal pieces and near-perfect quality clothing that’s nearly 300 years old. You’ll learn a huge amount about the history of fashion, in Bath and beyond. 

5. Longleat Safari Park

It may not be a museum or gallery, but top local visitor attraction Longleat Safari Park is also offering virtual video tours. So, once you’ve had your fill of art, history, culture and architecture, you can meet some of the park’s 1,200 animals from the comfort of your sofa. Check it out here.
