HISTORY
The suite is located in the centre house of (New) Sydney Place. The house is the focal point of the terrace with its central pediment carved with the Vane family crest, and elegant architectural detail that reflects all that is impressive of the Regency period. Built in 1808 and listed as Grade 1, First Rate – the highest rating in Bath – the terrace faces the only remaining Georgian Pleasure Gardens in England, and the Holburne Museum in its grounds.
Originally designed by Thomas Baldwin, (New) Sydney Place was completed by John Pinch the Elder and built in 1808 for William Henry Vane, Earl of Darlington and Marquess of Cleveland. This unique royal terrace was occupied by Queen Charlotte in 1817, at 93 Sydney Place, and Prince Regent (William 1V, Duke of Clarence) at 103. Echoing the neo-classical mansions found within country estates, the terrace has the perfect symmetry and regency detail that highlights both the significance of the centre house (98) and the balanced and harmonious royal residences at either end.
The Vane family crest in the centre of 98’s pediment and on a glass panel within the entrance hall. Other features include: a rare cast iron heating system, the original hall lantern, stunning marble fireplaces and over mantels, original servant bells, ovens, shelves and floors in the basement, remnants of hand-painted wallpapers and a carpenter’s hat (discovered after 200 years between the floor joists) in the beautifully restored piano noble, a cantilevered bath stone staircase, an original handrail with lyre motifs at each landing within the cast iron spindles, stunning cornices and ceiling roses, and beautiful windows and views at all levels making connections with nature to the front and the rear. Chandeliers and lanterns adorn every floor.

The perfect location for exploring all that beautiful Bath has to offer, with access to the city centre via a level walk down iconic Great Pulteney Street, lauded by many as one of the best streets in Europe. Opposite, a stroll through Sydney Gardens, home to the renowned Holburne Museum, leads to the picturesque canal and beyond to the Bath Skyline, where you’ll find yourself in tranquil countryside.
For all Bridgerton fans, you may recognise your views over the Holburne Museum which is featured highly in the series, as well as many other period films. The Museum was originally founded in 1882 as a gift from Sir William Holburne, to house his immense art collection, including 16th and 17th century Italian and Dutch paintings. The museum hosts many exhibitions during the year and was opened to the public in 1893. In 2011 a modern wing was attached to the back of the museum with inside and outside seating for dining or just coffee. Behind the museum is Sydney Gardens, the only remaining pleasure garden in Europe and well worth a stroll through the park, play a game of boules or tennis, or take a stroll along the canal to watch the long boats going through the locks. Those who enjoy a lengthy walk, take the canal all the way to Bradford on Avon, which is a picturesque village 7 miles outside of Bath and has many lovely restaurants and quaint shops.
You also have Henrietta Park around the corner from the property, and the Bath recreation ground, where you can watch Bath play rugby during their season. Within a 7-minute walk you have Waitrose supermarket, the Pulteney Arms and the Boatman pubs, and numerous restaurants, pubs, shops, galleries, the Komedia comedy club and the famous Roman Baths and Thermae Spa. In the heart of Bath, you have Victoria Park where you can play tennis, ice skate in the winter, botanical gardens, BBQ pits, view the famous Royal Crescent, and watch the hot air balloons take off.
The property will suit couples, friends, or families wishing to have a taste of Georgian grandeur and a relaxing and peaceful stay.

Our host made us feel so welcome and was able to give a fantastic insight to the property and its history.
All in all the Holbourne Suite was very special and would have no hesitation in recommending
Our September stay marked 50 years since my initial arrival in Bath as a university student. Holburne Suite was the perfect place to celebrate this or any other event.
I was looking for something a bit special for my husband's birthday and the Holburne Suite turned out to be the perfect answer. The large rooms with their tall windows, high ceilings and comfortable furnishings offer the epitome of18th century gracious living with the comfort of the 21st century. The location was perfect for two visitors without a car. It was about 15 minutes walk from the station and best of all, it was on the flat. The apartment itself has an attractive double aspect looking over the park in the front and St Mary's church at the back, is a short walk from the centre and about 5 minutes away from ... Waitrose. The owner was able to be flexible over arrival and departure times which was much appreciated though this of course depends on whether there are other guests in the offing. I'm looking forward to a return visit.
Fantastic flat in perfect location In Bath
We stayed at the stunning Holburne Suite for a couple of weeks, and have had a very pleasant experience. The host was extremely warm and welcoming, and everything was spotless, clean and ready for our arrival. The location of the flat is perfect as it is only a very short level walk to the city centre. It’s surrounded by beautiful architecture and faces a fabulous park, which is perfect for a stroll and coffee or lunch. The flat is light and spacious, and had everything we needed! We were able to cook and do our laundry with absolutely no issues. I would recommend this flat to anyone who wishes to have a lovely time in Bath in a luxury apartment!
Beautiful accommodation. Privileged to be able to stay there. Thanks
Past review:
By far the most beautiful and interesting place I have ever stayed in. Bath is a city full of beautiful buildings, the provenance of the building, the attention to detail in its restoration make it truly unique and outstanding. If you enjoy history then this building is where you should stay. It really is uniquely beautiful and Chrissie is a very welcoming and gracious hostess.
