Johnstone on the Weir

Summary

  • Stunning apartment with outstanding views
  • Open plan living, dining and kitchen area with 2 large original sash windows with working shutters
  • Glamorous bedroom with 6' double bed with french door to a balcony that overlooks Pulteney Weir and the Beazer Maze
  • Only a few minutes walk to the Abbey and the attractions of Bath
  • Suitable for children 8 years and over

Johnstone Street is part of the architect Thomas Baldwin’s grand late 18th century designs for the Bathwick extension to the city. It is named after William Johnstone who, in 1767 became Sir William Pulteney - reputedly the wealthiest man in Great Britain - and the landowner who created the world famous architectural heritage of the Pulteney Estate.

The apartment has all the lovely historic detail for which Bath is renowned worldwide. There are high ceilings with elaborate decorative cornicing, light pouring from immense sash windows, a grand original decorative marble fireplace, sparkling chandeliers and to the front, views of an elegant Bath stone terrace with the distant vista of wooded hills. To the rear is a peaceful sunny balcony with an extending awning for rain or shine. This balcony is perfect for alfresco drinks or morning coffee while you take in the breath-taking view of the weir.

Boldy decorated with verve in rich deep with paler greys contrasted with flashes of crimson and gold, the apartment blends striking historical detail with contemporary living. The open plan living, dining and kitchen area is framed by two huge arched sash windows, complete with working shutters. Between these is an elegant dining table to seat 4. There are 2 white sofas also seating 4 and a freeview TV on a sideboard containing books and games. The glossy grey fitted kitchen has a quartz stone worktop and includes an induction hob, an oven, a small dishwasher and fridge with freezer compartment. A large traditional alcove cupboard contains a microwave, crockery, cutlery, glassware and a good range of cooking equipment along with recycling crates.

The glamorous bedroom has a sumptuous 6’ double bed and impressive floor to ceiling windows with gracious French doors leading onto a stylish balcony overlooking Beazer Maze (a petite labyrinth), Pulteney Weir, and the city glimpsed through the trees. There is a large antique wardrobe with drawers and a dressing table with chair. Flanking the majestic fireplace with its plaster bust of Apollo are two delightful mustard coloured art deco chairs with side tables and lamps. Listening to the murmur of the river Avon, it’s hard to believe that you are at the centre of a bustling city and only around the corner from Baths’ historic sites, shops, bars and restaurants.

The smartly tiled contemporary bathroom continues the blend of historic and contemporary style. There is a large walk-in shower and a hand-basin mounted on a smart cabinet with storage. Above is an opulent Georgian mirror with a mythical carved ‘Ho-ho’ bird. Next is the WC with a deep shelf space for additional toiletries. A separate cupboard within the bathroom has a small washing machine and shelf space for laundry, whilst an alcove cupboard in the entrance lobby contains further utility items.

The property is a 10 minute level walk to the Bath Spa train and coach stations.

Johnstone on the Weir Constance - 2023-10-15
Beautiful apartment in brilliant location. Looks even better than it does in the photos.
Johnstone on the Weir David - 2023-10-02
We absolutely loved our stay in this gorgeous, comfortable apartment! It was the first visit to Bath for us, and we loved being close to everything, but also having a quiet, peaceful retreat at the end of the day.
Johnstone on the Weir Jessica - 2023-09-27
Absolutely lovely apartment and everything you will need. Location is fantastic enjoying a bottle Of wine on the balcony over looking the weir (what more do you need ) From first point of contact - right too us leaving … everything was dealt with perfectly… cannot fault it and will definitely be returning.
Thank you 😊
Johnstone on the Weir Caroline - 2023-09-04
This spacious lovely apartment in a 18th building is in the perfect location. Walking distance to all the sights. The king size bed was comfortable and the bedroom was dark and quiet. There was a small balcony that overlooks the river. The bathroom was small with tight shower, but functioned well. I would recommend this apartment.
Johnstone on the Weir Christopher - 2023-08-15
Very comfortable, clean and well-presented apartment. Larger than expected for a one-bedroom flat, with lovely airy high ceilings and big windows. Excellent location; within easy walking distance of everything you need in Bath. The apartment unfortunately doesn’t have a parking permit for a car, but it is relatively easy to park for a couple of hours on nearby Laura Place, or 24/7 parking in Manvers St Car Park (a 5-min walk away).
Johnstone on the Weir Mary - 2023-07-15
We enjoyed our stay here, great location & very gorgeous space.
Johnstone on the Weir Madison - 2023-06-01
We very much enjoyed our stay at Johnstone on the Weir.

Warm welcome from Nicholas who was always ready to answer any questions.

The apartment was very comfortable and well provided for.

The position could not have been better being convenient for transport, restaurants, shops and city centre.

All in all very welcome break.

Would not hesitate to come again.
Johnstone on the Weir Terry - 2023-05-24
We were blown away by this tasteful period apartment in a quiet, historic part of Bath city centre. The bed was enormous and very comfortable, with views from the french doors out to a balcony to Pulteney Weir and the city. The front room with kitchen was comfortable and practical- we loved closing the shutters at night to make it even more cosy! The TV also had netflix which was a nice bonus. The kitchen was well equipped with all the essentials, so you could easily knock up your own meal with ingredients from Waitrose which was 5 minutes walk away just over the other side of Pulteney Bridge. Step out of the front door, and you're already surrounded by history- the short cul de sac of Georgian terraced houses leads on to Laura Place with a beautiful fountain. Turn left to some interesting eating places on Pulteney Bridge- and you've still only walked for 2 minutes. We booked 1 weeks parking at Morrisons supermarket about 1 mile away for about £30, then walked everywhere
Johnstone on the Weir Decheal - 2023-03-09
Nice place. Great location.
Johnstone on the Weir James - 2023-01-19
The place was spectacular, every little detail was very clearly thoughtfully curated. We had the most amazing time over New Year’s Eve, and the balcony gave us the perfect view of the fireworks display. The place is super central, though you wouldn’t know it with how little noise there was! We absolutely loved our stay and are already thinking about when to come back.
Johnstone on the Weir Toni - 2023-01-01
This is a beautiful flat in Bath. It's an easy walk up from the train station and situated right above the river. The balcony is the best part. I had a great week-long stay over the holidays. I would rent again as well as recommend to other travelers.
Johnstone on the Weir Amy - 2022-12-29
The apartment is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and well equipped. Location is absolutely perfect and despite being close to town is extremely calm and quiet. Instructions were clear and timely, check in was simple. Highly recommended.
Johnstone on the Weir David - 2022-07-25
We couldn't have asked for a better 25th wedding anniversary stay in Bath.
Johnstone on the Weir Rachel - 2022-04-08
Great view, Central for all of Bath just park up the car and forget it for your stay
Johnstone on the Weir Antony - 2022-03-31
Very stylish place, central situated and comfortable equipped.
Johnstone on the Weir Karsten - 2022-03-27
This was a beautiful apartment, the decor was wonderful, and the place has super high ceilings. Everything you'll need is there, it's also very well located, only a short step into the city centre. The apartment has a lovely view of the river from the balcony. Would stay here again. The host is very communicative and friendly.
Johnstone on the Weir Grace - 2021-12-17
Thank you for our wonderful stay. The apartment is lovely and we hope to visit again some time. The communication has been excellent too.
Johnstone on the Weir Lily - 2021-12-07

Johnstone on the Weir Charlie - 2021-10-31

Johnstone on the Weir Katie - 2021-10-17
I was delighted with the property I booked, Johnstone on the Weir, through Bath Holiday Rentals. It was a beautiful apartment in a fabulous location. The view from the little balcony overlooking the weir was stunning. The property is clearly very well maintained and had absolutely everything you could possibly need, it was very warm and comfortable and beautifully decorated in a style sympathetic to the Georgian era when it was built. A really nice touch was the basket of goodies which included, amongst other things a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine. The location of the property is also a dream, close to the rail and bus station and all the shops and restaurants, no need to drive anywhere. In addition to all the museums and attractions in Bath it is also close to the river and canal offering opportunities for walks, cycle rides and boat trips. A really lovely place for a short break or a longer stay in a truly stunning city.
Bath Holiday Rentals were a joy to deal with, very considerate and helpful; the property was exceptional value particularly given its location and quality. I will certainly book with BHR again and I have already recommended them to friends and family.
Thank you for excellent service and a really enjoyable city break.
Johnstone on the Weir Val - 2021-10-01

We've been to Bath many times and always use Bath Holiday Rentals. As usual getting into the rental was seamless and the communication is always excellent. The apartment has to be the best we've stayed in. It is beautiful and the location is perfect for getting straight into town. We were blessed with lovely weather so the balcony was lovely to sit on for breakfast and drinks in the evening. Would highly recommend

Johnstone on the Weir Alison and Clive - 2021-08-27
We had a lovely stay at Johnstone on the Weir. I think that this is probably the best apartment I have stayed in with your company and I have stayed in quite a few. What makes it is the spacious balcony and the wonderful view across to the weir. However, it is also in a great central location near to Pulteney Bridge, while also being very quiet and secluded away from any traffic noise. The apartment is also very well appointed and has everything you need for a great stay in Bath. I will definitely be looking to rebook this apartment the next time I visit Bath.
Johnstone on the Weir Miranda & Neil - 2021-08-02
Lovely, clean, stylish apartment in a great location. There was good communication and a real bonus to have parking and the balcony. We would definitely stay here again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The flat is stunning in terms of design, spacious and airy, has all that is needed, and as a bonus has the most charming balcony. The location is ideally situated right in the heart of Bath. I could not recommend it more highly.
Johnstone on the Weir Conrad - 2021-05-13
Lovely little spot near the town centre, just a few minutes walk across the river. The space itself is great and the balcony overlooking the river is a perfect bonus. Looking forward to staying again!
Johnstone on the Weir Tom - 2021-05-02
We loved our stay here. Great location for all the central Bath sites. The host was so friendly and made us feel really special through the trip. It felt like a home away from home. Amazing view too and lovely to sit out on the balcony for breakfast and sunset.

Johnstone on the Weir Nika - 2020-10-11

Johnstone on the Weir Sharon - 2020-10-02
“This is such a beautiful apartment, fantastic location just moments from Pulteney Bridge & we loved having a glass of wine on the balcony looking down on the weir - everything perfect ! Nicolas and Alexa great hosts - very well organised and very helpful with check in. Thank you!”
Johnstone on the Weir Richard - 2020-09-27
“Johnstone on the Weir was exceptional! We have stayed in Bath quite often but this was our first apartment (as opposed to hotel or guest house). Whilst we’ve had great stays before, this took things to a new level! Our new home from home in Bath. The balcony overlooking the Weir was our favourite spot, and there are plenty to choose from.”
Johnstone on the Weir Elton - 2020-09-18
“Our stay was like 'home from home', very comfortable. We were walking distance from places of interest, Bath Abbey, Roman Baths and Thermae Spa and enjoyed use of the apartments balcony overlooking the Weir. Had a lovely stay.”
Johnstone on the Weir Clare - 2020-09-11
This apartment is gorgeous! I booked it for a birthday treat for my partner and really felt like a treat. The apartment is about as close to the city centre as you can get so easy to get around by foot and there's a Waitrose just around the corner so you can pop out for essentials. The apartment is beautiful and feels very luxurious, lots of attention to detail and a real treat to stay in. The bed is super comfortable! Alexa and Nicholas were fantastic, they organised some balloons and champagne as a surprise for my partner and all communications were really easy with them. Nicholas met us when we arrived to give us the parking permit and show us around, the only thing to note is if you arrive later in the day you might find it tricky to find a parking space. Completely recommended and would definitely stay again if we're in Bath
Johnstone on the Weir Natalie - 2020-08-30
“Both my Wife and I were met with a very warm welcome from Nicholas who soon made us feel at home. We both enjoyed the fabulous apartment with us soon feeling very much at home and the Balcony really made it even better, sitting in the sun enjoying the fantastic view having a glass of wine, it was great and just what we both needed. Thanks Nicholas”

Loved the ‘old world’ look and feel of this place but happily impressed with the modern conveniences and the comfiest of beds. The location is great because you can walk everywhere. Great pub “The Boater” just around the corner with friendly staff and excellent food. Highly recommend.
Johnstone on the Weir Dianne - 2019-08-27
My grandson and family enjoyed their stay tremendously. The apartment provided everything they needed

and the central location allowed them to easily explore Bath on foot.

As they were happy, we are happy as well and will certainly recommend

Johnstone on the Weir Julie - 2019-05-24
“Definitely the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in! I can whole-heartedly recommend to anyone looking for something more than just a place to sleep - half of our stay in Bath was just chilling in this beautiful, stylish interior. The welcome was so warm I can safely say it was one of the best experiences I've had recently. Additionally, the property is so close to everything, including the train station, that we could walk everywhere within 10 minutes. Much more than I expected! So worth the price - will most definitely be back here when I'm in Bath next!”
Johnstone on the Weir Aleksandra - 2019-05-17
“Wow! What a special place this is! We stayed three nights here and can honestly say it's one of the best places we've ever stayed in. The apartment: A stunning building with grand rooms that are richly decorated with plaster work on the ceilings- a real Georgian treasure! The decor itself is tasteful and modern while also paying homage to the Roman history of Bath, we especially loved the impressive plaster busts surveying the living spaces. It feels like a space in which the host cares deeply about the interior and making it a special place for her guests, and we appreciated it. Every thing was super clean and tidy, we had everything we could possibly need, and we very much appreciated the extra generous touches in the kitchen. Above all, it is a quiet space, which is really important to me as I'm such a light sleeper. The location: This place is smack dab next to the Pulteney bridge, and the balcony looks over the Beazer Garden Maze and the river Avon - we loved sitting out of the balcony and watching the joyful activities in the park, and in the evenings it became the most peaceful spot to sit and while away the evening. To say this is central is understating things, we were literally on the very doorstep of everything we wanted to see and do, with barely a few minutes walk before we were right in the middle of things - yet the street itself is so quiet and calm - it's not a through road so it's very peaceful indeed, with only residents coming down. The host: Quick responses, polite, attentive and super professional. We were met at the door by a very kind lady who took our bags as we set off to find a spot to park, and who made us most welcome and settled us in before bidding us farewell. There is a really well thought out welcome pack in the apartment with so many great suggestions and local knowledge - much care and thought went into putting this pack together and it shows. I cannot recommend this place enough - for us it was more than we would normally be able to afford, but we thought it well worth the price and well worth lashing out that little extra for what was quite simply a wonderful and truly special place to stay in the heart of Bath. We have many happy memories of staying here and would love to come again!”
Johnstone on the Weir Blessin - 2019-05-16

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Johnstone on the Weir. We stayed three nights and enjoyed all the amenities the flat had to offer. It is beautifully decorated with a modern kitchen and bath. The location was very convenient yet allowed for privacy. We could walk around the city to see the sights and it was a quick ten minute walk to the train station. The view of the weir is amazing! We would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful property

We absolutely LOVED staying here. It was the absolute right choice for us while in Bath and we hope to get to stay here again one day. It is so close to everything and the view is breathtaking. It's perfect.

“Beautiful historic flat that looks just like the pictures. The location was fantastic and we were able to walk to all the sites. Everything was nice and clean and the bed very comfortable.
