Boasting river views from the windows and a fantastic walled garden, this spectacular townhouse offers a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle. Situated on the 18th-century Bathwick Estate in the centre of Bath, this fabulous property is perfect for a family of four, or a group of friends.

Accessed via the building’s shared entrance, the property’s private doorway is accessed from the hall. Step into this reverse-level townhouse and descend the stairs to the ground floor. Here you’ll find the contemporary kitchen complete with a spacious larder and all the handy facilities you will need for cooking breakfasts and dinners. The lovely, bright lounge/diner combines traditional features such as flagstone floors and stone walls with antique furnishings. Curl up on the comfortable seating and watch a film or play games around the four-seater dining table. Back upstairs are the two bedrooms. The spectacular master bedroom contains a super-king-size bed, a seating area, a gas fire, and beautiful views of the River Avon and Pulteney Weir from the windows. Adjacent is the second bedroom, which has twin zip-and-link beds (can be made into a super-king-size on request at time of booking) for added convenience. This room shares the same glorious views. Completing the interior of the property is a sumptuous bathroom with a roll-top bath. Outside, through the lounge’s back door, is the stunning garden. Enclosed by a wall and lined with mature hedges and plants – a superb place for a moment of tranquillity.

At the bottom of the garden is a secret gate that leads to the Beazer Maze, a little labyrinth next to the river. Explore the shops, pubs, and restaurants that line Pulteney Weir and the side roads (300 metres). A trip to Bath isn’t complete without a visit to the 2,000-year-old Roman Baths (0.5 miles).

Perfectly located - just seconds from Pulteney Bridge yet v calm and peaceful. The apartment is lovely and cool so a good place to stay during a heatwave! You can hear the river/weir nearby, which I also found v relaxing at night. Gorgeous garden with plenty of shade. My second stay and will happily stay here again!

Johnstones Secret Garden is a great place to stay: clean, warm, comfortable, attractive (and would be fantastic in the summer too in the pretty garden with outdoor seating) and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable and the location was superb - a short walk from the front or back of the property to all the shops, pubs and restaurants. Although we were only at Johnsons secret garden briefly, we absolutely loved it. There was everything we could possibly have needed, & we loved the history of the place too. It was really handy for everything we wanted to do! Thank you for our welcome pack too, much appreciated. We have already reccomended it to friends. Thanks again

Absolutely fantastic place. Super clean and well stocked. Best location, central to everything that there is to see in Bath. Decorated with a lot of care and charm. Felt like an enchanted place with the secret garden and the hidden garden door that led to the labyrinth by the river. We also enjoyed meeting the host who was so very helpful. We recently stayed at this property for a long weekend, loved it, very central, incredibly quiet at night and having a garden was a bonus, we used the back gate often to pop out and just a stones throw from Pultney bridge! An easy stroll too from the station and a great choice of coffee shops/restaurants on the doorstep. A wonderful place to stay with incredible character. Every modern convenience coupled with old world charm. Less than a 5 minute walk to the center of town but in a quiet area with a garden backing right on to the river.
