open mic nights in Bath

Where and when to go for an open mic night in Bath

3 November 2018

Love the thrill of discovering exciting new talent at an open mic night, or perhaps you’re a budding performer yourself? Make sure you get along to one of the many open mic nights in Bath, ranging from music to comedy in venues across the city. Here’s our pick of the best…

The Curfew, Cleveland Place West

The first and third Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm-11pm

Twice a month, The Curfew ale house hosts a popular open mic night in Bath. Organisers welcome acts of all kinds, but if you’re planning a night out you can expect an eclectic mix of singers, musicians and more. The pub itself is well worth a visit, as its an 1820s building with a welcoming, traditional feel and a great choice of ales, beers and other tipples.

If you’re staying at our chic Herschel Place apartment on Bathwick Street, you’ll be just five minutes’ walk away from The Curfew.

The Bell Inn, Walcot Street

Thursday nights, 8pm

For a night full of weird and wonderful talent, get down to The Bell Inn for their Thursday night open mic night – The Smoking Duck Playgroup. It all starts at 8pm, but get there early if you’d like to perform as this one is popular.

Organiser Lawrie Duckworth has sorted a piano, bass amp, drum kit and lots more for musicians and entertainers to make full creative use of, and the event even encourages a full improvised band to join forces at the end of the evening! This one is a great night for aspiring musicians, but it’s also one of the best open mic Bath events if you’re looking for a top evening out.

The Bell Inn is a fantastic venue to visit any day of the week, as it’s a cooperative-owned pub offering fantastic real ales and is famous for its excellent live music three times a week. It’s won Pub of the Year in many local competitions and scored a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2017.

You’ll find The Bell Inn on Walcot Street, not far from The Curfew (if you’re on a kind of open mic pub crawl) and our Old Orchard apartment, which is on the same road.

Komedia, Westgate Street

First Monday of the month, 7.30pm

If you’d like to see the comedy stars of the future first, before they hit the big time, book a ticket to New Act Comedy Night at one of the city’s best comedy venues, Komedia. It’s a bargain at just £3 a ticket and you could be laughing along to gags by a future comedy star. Aspiring comics can also get in touch with Komedia to see if they can get themselves on the bill, but you will need to do this in advance rather than turning up to book a slot on the night.

The next Komedia comedy open mic nights in Bath will be held on Monday 5th November and Monday 3rd December.
