1. The Marlborough Tavern

Dogs are welcome inside and out at this friendly and welcoming inn, which is known for its fabulous food and great atmosphere. There are large tables near the bar, perfect for relaxing with friends and pets – and bowls of water are readily available on request.

Owned by the Bath Pub Company, the Marlborough Tavern is in Marlborough Buildings just where the street joins Weston Road.

2. The Hop Pole

This brilliant country-pub-in-the-city is on busy Upper Bristol Road, but once you’re tucked away in the beer garden, you’d have no idea. Well-behaved dogs are more than welcoming in the cosy bar and outside area, while you enjoy great beer and some hearty pub grub made with local, seasonal ingredients. The Hop Pole is the perfect place to lunch, drink and chill, and it’s great in the evenings too.

3. The Garrick’s Head

The Garrick’s Head in the heart of the city centre guarantees a warm welcome for dogs, and the staff are happy to sort out water and dog bowls for your pooch. This historic pub is famous for its real ale, traditional food (and generous portions) and lovely outdoor seating so that you and your pet can watch the world go by.

4. The Hare and Hounds

As you may expect from the name, The Hare and Hounds welcomes dogs with open arms. They’re allowed to roam everywhere in this spacious pub. You’ll love the bustling atmosphere, the sun-kissed terrace and in winter, the open fire and cosy surroundings. All the food is home-cooked and the beer is top notch, but it’s also a great place for coffee, lunches and lighter bites.

The Hare and Hounds is on Lansdown Road, to the north of the city centre.

5. The Chequers

Your golden retriever, cocker spaniel or poodle will be made to feel right at home at The Chequers pub. There’s been a pub on this Rivers Street site since 1776, but The Chequers is still going strong today. It offers a warm welcome, particularly to dogs and their owners, as well as fantastic gastropub food, local ales and ciders and regular food and drink specials.

You’ll find The Chequers on Rivers Street, not far from The Circus.
