Take a ‘Curious Stroll’ in Bath on one of these fabulous walking tours

13 July 2021

It’s safe to say that Bath is the unofficial home of the walking tour. From Jane Austen and Bridgerton to ghost hunting and humorous historical tours, there’s an enormous choice of excellent guided tours available in the city.

Here’s a rundown of our favourites, perfect for learning about Bath, exploring the city centre and enjoying some fresh air at the same time…

Bath Curious Strolls

Using fabulous period costumes and hilarious characters, the team at Bath Curious Strolls bring Regency Bath to vivid life. You can take your pick from a choice of themed tours, including Simply Jane Austen, a Bath Architectural Tour, The Waters of Bath and their newest attraction – the Bridgerton Tour.

Each tour is 90 minutes to 2 hours long, for up to 10 guests at a time. You can hire a costume to join in the fun, tuck into refreshments (including traditional cream tea) along the way and have your photo taken by a professional photographer.

Bath Ghost Tours

One of the city’s most popular walking tours returns in July 2021, with hilariously frightening ghost tours taking place from Thurs-Sat evenings from 8pm. Join guides Brother Fergus and Doctor Lynch for a highly entertaining mix of theatre, history and paranormal goings-on, as you explore some of the most ‘haunted’ venues across the city.

Each tour lasts around 105 minutes and kicks off from outside the magnificent Bath Abbey.  And prices for Bath Ghost Tours are pretty reasonable at just £10 for an adult ticket.

The Hidden Gardens of Bath

Did you know that Bath has won the Britain in Bloom competition more than 13 times? You’ll see why on one of these delightful tours, where you get a rare opportunity to peep into some of the most beautiful private gardens in Bath.

If you’re looking for a relaxing day out, surrounded by lush greenery and colourful floral displays, this is the tour to choose. Better still, each tour comes with a delicious afternoon cream tea, served in one of the stunning gardens.

Savouring Bath

What could be better than an indulgent foodie tour of Bath? Skip breakfast and consider wearing something with a loose waistband, as a Savouring Bath food tour is a real gastronomic treat.

You can take your pick from a choice of tours, including Local Flavours, Guilty Pleasures, Culinary Comforts and our personal favourite, The Cheese Tour of Bath. This last one is led by Mike James, member of the fabulously named Academy of Cheese, and includes at least 7 artisan cheeses from across the region paired with tea or wine.

Depending which tour you choose, you’ll get a curated selection of sweet and savoury samples from some of Bath’s best producers. Plus, a bespoke map, hot tips for where to eat in the city, and fascinating facts and anecdotes about Bath’s culinary history from a knowledgeable tour guide.

After all that walking, you’ll need somewhere cosy and comfortable to rest your weary feet. Check out our fabulous choice of self-catering apartments in Bath city centre, so you won’t have to walk much further for a well-earned sit down!
