Start your engines…the Bath Festival of Motoring rolls into town in June 2017

20th April 2017

If you can’t resist a classic car or are desperate to see a high-powered supercar in the flesh, head to Bath in June for the Bath Festival of Motoring 2017.

The event, held on Father’s Day weekend on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th June, is organised by the Rotary Club of Bath. It will take place at the Walcot rugby ground in Lansdown, conveniently close to the park and ride. Lansdown is a suburb of Bath, just a short drive out of the city centre and all of its popular attractions.

This year will be the sixth year of the celebration of motoring, which is designed to delight both families and car lovers alike. Vehicles of all varieties will be in attendance, with over 6,000 people expected to visit on the day. People travel from far and wide to join in the fun and see their favourite cars up close, so the city is expected to be very busy on this Father’s Day weekend.

Highlights of the festival include:

  • The chance to see hundreds of vintage and classic cars and motorbikes up close
  • Live music
  • An extensive programme of parades, exhibitions and demonstrations
  • Fairground rides and other family activities
  • A model aircraft display
  • Competitions
  • Some of the newest high-powered supercars on display, including the Ferrari F40 with a reported price tag of £1 million
  • Test drives of prestige models from Porsche, Mercedes and Ferrari
  • Freshly prepared food and drink from local suppliers and caterers

Best of all, the money raised from ticket sales (available from the Bath Festival of Motoring website) will go towards supporting two charities. These are Time to Share, a group working to improve the lives of disabled children in Bath, and Freewheelers, which provides volunteer motorcyclists to transport life-saving blood around the country.

Speaking to the Bath Chronicle about the event, organiser and Rotary Club member Simon Spalding said:

“The Festival of Motoring is Bath’s very own celebration of all things motoring.

“There’s something for every member of the family – and it’s a great way to give dad or grandad a special treat for Father’s Day too.”

Staying with Bath Holiday Rentals for the festival

Once you’ve snapped up a hot ticket for this unmissable Bath event, you’ll need somewhere to stay for the weekend. As it’s Father’s Day weekend and there’s lots going on in the city, you’ll need to move fast to snap up the best accommodation. Luckily, Bath Holiday Rentals has many properties located throughout the city centre and the outskirts of Bath, all within easy reach of the festival.

One of the closest is the gloriously decorated Camden Crescent, a period first floor apartment with stunning panoramic views of the city and in a much sought-after location. Even better, it also comes with its own private parking space if you fancy showing off your own car at the Bath Festival of Motoring.
