Visitors and residents of Bath will be delighted to learn the last in a series of major improvements to the historic and famously idyllic Royal Victoria Park has been completed, in the form of a brand new café that is now open to the public.

In an effort to continue attracting both tourists and residents, Bath & North East Somerset Council committed to a program of improvements to the park. The £500,000 investment has resulted in:

• Improvements to children’s play equipment, including a replacement climbing wall, upgrades to swings and a brand new slide and large social swing
• Refurbishment of the entire skate park
• Installation of a brand new aerial walkway in the Great Dell
• New BBQ tables and bins
• Toilet block improvements, including unisex and disabled toilets and baby changing facilities.

The latest addition to the Royal Victoria Park is its thought by many to be its crowning glory – a new café offering an excellent choice of great quality, good value snacks and refreshments for visitors.

The council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services, Martin Veal, spoke proudly of the improvement programme to the park and the much-anticipated opening of the café, saying:

“The eagerly awaited café opening to the public in Royal Victoria Park is the last of a series of improvements that the Council has invested in during the last year.

 It’s another example of our commitment to improving facilities and visitor experience for everyone who visits the park, and the park is now set to provide high quality leisure opportunities for local people and visitors for years to come.”

Attractions for all the family at Royal Victoria Park

Royal Victoria Park is around 185 years old, being first opened in 1830 by an 11-year-old Princess Victoria as the first public park to bear her name. It began life as an arboretum, but since that time the park’s 57 acres have been enjoyed by the public with a wide range of attractions nestled within its grounds. It is a beautiful green space in a vibrant and historic city, and also offers one of the largest children’s play areas in the South West.

Visitors of all ages can enjoy everything in this expansive and much-loved park, from tennis and mini golf to zip wires and adventure playgrounds in the park.
