It’s not too early to start planning Christmas in Bath 2021

7 October 2021

It may still be summer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start planning some winter fun. In fact, now is the perfect time to start booking accommodation and planning your Christmas visit to Bath – before the city fills up with festive minibreakers!

Christmas is one of the best times of the year to visit Bath, but sadly the city’s world-famous Christmas Markets had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. But the great news for fans of twinkling lights, wooden chalets and carols is that the market is officially back on in 2021 – and it’ll run for longer than ever before.

The Bath Christmas Market 2021 will stretch across 25 magical days, from Thursday 25th November to Sunday 19th December. This should give you plenty of time to do your Christmas shopping, as well as thinning out the crowds to allow for social distancing and other Covid-safe measures.

The event is a major part of the calendar in Bath, and an important one for the city’s economy. In pre-Covid years, around 400,000 visitors come to Bath for the markets – providing a boost of over £32 million to the local economy.

What’s on at the Bath Christmas Market 2021

So, along with an extended run of dates, what else can you expect from this year’s much-anticipated Christmas Markets in Bath? For starters, you’ll have your pick of over 130 chalet stalls. This is slightly less than previous years, but there’s still a dazzling amount of choice on offer.

The final list of independent crafters, local producers and fabulous food stalls for 2021 is yet to be confirmed, but expect to see the likes of The Bath Soft Cheese Company, Honey’s Cider, Robyn Coetzee Glass Designs, The Bath Gin Company and Go Wild Preserves – just some of the brilliant stalls featured in previous events.

There will also be charity stalls, given away to free by the organisers to local organisations doing important fundraising and community work in the area.

You’ll be able to navigate your way around the market thanks to a beautiful map illustrated by local artist Finola Stack, which will be ready shortly before launch. It’s expected that the layout of the market will be similar to usual, spread across numerous city centre streets including Abbeygate Street, Abbey Green, Bath Street and Milsom Street.

More Christmas fun in Bath in 2021

The markets may be the star of the show in December, but there’s likely to be plenty of other festive fun happening across the city this Christmas – especially after many events were cancelled in 2020. Here are some of the other Christmas events already on the calendar:

  • Love Actually in Concert (with live orchestra) – Bath Forum, 2nd December
  • Christmas with Il Divo – Bath Forum, 6th December
  • Christmas Carol Singing & Dinner – Bath Priory, 9th December
  • 1920s Christmas Party Night – Bath Racecourse, multiple dates from 3rd December.
  • Cinderella – Theatre Royal Bath, 16th December.
