Gin bars in Bath – where to find the best G&T in the city

11 November 2019

A gin-naissance has gripped the UK, with the humble G&T now more popular than ever. And where better for a gin tipple than Bath? The city was famous for its gin palaces in the Georgian era and is now home to its own craft gin distillery.

There’s a huge choice of fabulous gin bars in Bath, offering G&Ts, gin cocktails and even gin tastings. To help you plan the ultimate gin experience in the city, we’ve put together a few of our favourites.

The Canary Gin Bar

Head down the cobbles of charming Queen Street and you’ll find The Canary Gin Bar. This is the home of the Bath Gin Company, which makes premium, small batch production from a special distillery in the cellar. You can even take a tour of the distillery and see the copper stills, botanicals, vats and bottling machinery in action – it really is fascinating.

Upstairs, you can sample hundreds of gins from Bath Gin and other leading brands, taking the advice of expert bar staff to choose the perfect tonics and accompaniments.

Sub 13

If you like your gin with a fun twist, Sub 13 is the bar for you. The clever mixologists at one of the most creative gin bars in Bath are happy to whip up a Boe Violet Gin cocktail with white peach and tonic, or a Dolce Vita with Beefeater gin, Aperol and grapefruit bitters. Even better, there’s 2-for-1 on classic Gin Collection cocktails and lots of other cocktail offers every evening.

For the ultimate gin lovers experience, try the Sub 13 Gin Masterclass where you’ll learn how to make personalised G&T twists.

Staying at Gay Street House or our Alfred Street apartment? Sub 13 is right around the corner, you lucky thing.

ArtBar

This elegant bar at the Abbey Hotel has dozens of exquisite gins and tonics to choose from, with more than 64 possible combinations. Need help choosing? A team of highly trained bar staff are on hand to offer expert recommendations. You can also sip an Earl Grey Martini with 6 O’Clock gin and Earl Grey syrup, or a Negronissimo with William’s pink grapefruit gin and Solerno blood orange liqueur – to name just a couple of the gin-infused cocktails on offer.

Cosy Club

There are lots of gin bars in Bath, but Cosy Club actually looks like a Regency-era gin palace. You’ll love the Art Deco stylings, cosy snugs and terrace seating, and that’s even before you’ve looked at the menu. It’s a great spot for a classic gin cocktail. Highlights of the menu for gin fans include the English Garden with Hendrick’s gin and the Rhubarb & Elderflower Spritz with Warner’s rhubarb gin, fizz and a touch of sparkle.

Circo

Afternoon tea in Bath is lovely anyway, but the addition of gin makes it irresistible. This unique experience at Circo involves a classic afternoon tea complete with a teapot of gin and a choice of botanicals. An expert mixologist will help you choose your ideal blend and advise on how long to steep the concoction for, all while providing a fascinating history of your favourite spirit. Throughout the experience, you’ll get to try three different gins.

Circo is right next door to Sub 13, so it’s great for a gin-themed evening out as well as being convenient if you’re staying nearby

And of course, always drink responsibly.
