The big Bath sleep out

Are you taking part in the Big Bath Sleep Out 2019?

16 February 2019

The annual Big Bath Sleep Out is approaching, with hundreds of people getting ready to spend the night in the great outdoors to support a great cause.

For those who’ve not heard of the Big Bath Sleep Out, it’s a unique event taking place on Friday 8th March 2019 and open to everyone from children to adults. People take part in order to raise funds for Julian House, an essential homeless charity based in Bath. They give up their beds for one night and sleep out in the open, raising awareness of homelessness and raising vital money for those who are forced to sleep rough every night.

This year is the 10th year of the Big Bath Sleep Out, which has so far raised thousands of pounds to help Julian House run a range of services to help homeless people transform their lives.

About Julian House and how sponsorship makes a difference

The organisers make everyone aware that experiencing a camp out in a Bath park for just one night, with a whole group of other people, doesn’t even come close to what it’s like for people living on the streets. However, the event is extremely important for raising awareness of homelessness and Julian House’s work, as well as bringing in vital funds for the charity.

Julian House runs over 20 schemes and services to support people with addiction recovery, domestic violence and homelessness, as well as teaming up with businesses and social enterprises to offer training and work experience.

Where is the Big Bath Sleep Out?

The Big Bath Sleep Out 2019 takes place in Alice Park, a small, tranquil park on the eastern side of the city. The park, with eight acres of green space along with plenty of facilities, is on Gloucester Road and is just a ten-minute drive from the city centre.

Want to join in?

If you want to join this year’s Big Bath Sleep Out, it’s easy to sign up. Head to the website to join, where you’ll also find all the information you need about setting up your fundraising page so you can start getting sponsors. There’s also tips on what to wear and bring, as well as creative ideas for boosting those donations.

You can sign up on your own, or as part of a group. Your whole family could take part this year, or you can attend the Big Bath Sleep Out with colleagues as part of your company’s efforts to raise money for charity.

You will need to give up your bed for one night, and it may be a little chilly at this time of year (so wrap up warm and follow all the organiser’s advice), but you will be supporting a truly worthy cause. You’ll also get to visit one of Bath’s most lovely parks and spend a night under the stars with a group of like-minded people.

If you aren’t able to take part this year, why not give a donation if you’re able or find another way to support Julian House and their vital work?
