Alfresco dining in and around Bath – where to eat in the fresh air

10 May 2018

The time has nearly come when the weather will be warm enough to eat outside – so let’s make the most of it! Here’s our guide to the best alfresco dining Bath has to offer, where we’ll point you to the best places to eat outdoors…

Aqua, Walcot Street

Aqua in central Bath has the perfect picturesque courtyard in which to enjoy the fresh air when the weather is fine. Grab a bite to eat along with delicious Italian cocktails, amazing espresso or a choice of Italian wines.

Adventure Café, George Street

At the front, Adventure Café has a handful of small tables perfect for sipping a coffee or a glass of wine and watching the world go by. However, this charming cafe also has a secret alfresco dining area at the back. It boasts a sunny courtyard perfect for enjoying a hangover breakfast (one of the things that Adventure Café is famous for), lunch or dinner with friends or family.

The café is right by a number of wonderfully convenient Bath Holiday Rentals properties, including Gay Street House and Haystack.

Côte Brasserie, Milsom Place

This Parisian-inspired brasserie is one of the most elegant places to eat in Bath. It offers exquisite French food in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and its large, sun-kissed terrace is ideal for alfresco dining on a summer’s day.

Milsom Place, one of the trendier spots in town, is just a stone’s throw from our Queen’s View apartment.

Hall & Woodhouse, Old King Street

Hall & Woodhouse, a former auction house spread over four floors, is one of the best places in the city for food and drink. There’s a different offering on each floor, the most stunning being The Roof Terrace right at the top of the building. Drink in the beautiful Bath skyline and soak up the sun while enjoying quality food and drink in one of the best rooftop bars in Bath.

The Roman Baths Kitchen, Abbey Churchyard

Settle in at a table at The Roman Baths Kitchen, which has an alfresco dining area in arguably the very best spot in Bath. Flanked by Bath Abbey and the Baths themselves, this Abbey Churchyard restaurant serves up fresh, seasonal dishes using locally sourced ingredients. It’s popular though, so you’ll need to reserve a table in advance!

The Marlborough, Marlborough Buildings

Many people think of The Marlborough as a great traditional pub, or a top choice for a Sunday lunch – but did you know that it also won “Best Al Fresco Dining” at the 2011 Bath Good Food Awards? It is still one of the best spots for eating outside in Bath, with a charming, suntrap of a courtyard filled with outdoor seating.

If you don’t feel like going out, you’ll be delighted to know that many of our self-catering apartments in Bath have wonderful outdoor spaces for al fresco dining. With a private terrace or courtyard garden to yourself, you can enjoy the weather and fresh air whenever you like.
