A roundup of the best new eateries opening in Bath in 2017

26th January 2017

If you love your food, you will be utterly spoilt for choice on a visit to Bath. The city is known for its gastronomic delights and there are new ventures opening all the time. It’s an exciting place in which to be a foodie, and here are all the best new eateries you absolutely must check out…

Menu Gordon Jones

Regularly tipped as one of the best restaurants outside of London, Menu Gordon Jones is not technically a brand new venture. The popular eatery on Wellsway has been closed for refurbishment, but it’s back with a stunning new look for 2017. A small discreet restaurant outside the city centre and headed by celebrated chef (and former head chef at the Royal Crescent Hotel) Gordon Jones, the menu promises seasonal, locally sourced dishes guaranteed to surprise.

Smashburger

Can’t resist a gourmet burger? Bath is bursting with great places to grab one, but the latest news in Bath for burger fans is that Smashburger is coming to town. The American-style restaurant has an ambitious goal – “to change the way people think about burgers and the way they feel when they have a burger”. If it sounds intriguing, pay a visit to Little SouthGate over the next few months and try the Smashburger experience for yourself when the restaurant opens.

Tapas Revolution

Chef Omar Allibhoy, dubbed by none other than Gordon Ramsay as the “Antonio Banderas of cooking” is to bring his own exciting take on tapas to the city of Bath. Omar is fiercely passionate about Spanish food and his last venture, El Pirata Detapas in West London, was a roaring success winning rave reviews from diners and critics. Foodie fans will be delighted to know that his latest project, Tapas Revolution, will be opening on SouthGate very soon.

Absurd Bird

For another reason to head to SouthGate, check out Absurd Bird – a new southern fried chicken restaurant serving classics with a twist. Bath will be its second branch outside London, and its signature dishes will include chicken and waffles with sweet gravy, and sweet potato bake with toasted marshmallows. Love it or hate it, it’s definitely an exciting concept – and it’ll be exploding onto the Bath food scene in 2017.

Don’t forget about Bath’s Michelin-starred gems…

In the excitement to visit brand new food ventures, you may forget that the Bath food scene also has many well-established restaurants offering exceptional quality cuisine. Four restaurants from Bath and the surrounding area were honoured with Michelin stars in the brand new 2017 guide, including The Bath Priory and Bybrook Restaurant at The Manor House Hotel. Further afield, other lucky recipients included The Park at Lucknam Park Hotel and The Pony and Trap in Chew Magna.

Once you’ve sampled the delights of the city, you’re going to need somewhere to stay. Bath Holiday Rentals has luxurious, comfortable accommodation available all over the city, including many apartments right in the city centre close to all of the best bars, restaurants and cafes.
