5 April 2022

If you’ve a sweet tooth, get yourself to Bath. The city is bursting with incredible-smelling bakeries, patisseries and cake shops.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourites, perfect for birthday celebrations and afternoon teas – or simply for treating yourself to a slice or two of indulgence.

  1. Thoughtful Bakery

This much-loved artisan bakery does it all – pastries, cakes and buns, vegan treats and mouth-watering afternoon teas.

You can pop in, order online for collection or order a spectacular bespoke celebration cake from Thoughtful Bakery for someone special, with prices starting from £45.

Find it on Barton Street, just round the corner from our Queen’s View apartment.

  1. Sally Lunn’s Historic Eating House

This Bath institution near Bath Abbey is a must-visit for newcomers to the city. It’s not only a fascinating historical site, one of the oldest houses and Bath and with its own kitchen museum, but it’s also the best place in Bath to try the famous Sally Lunn bun.

These bready, cakey delights are simply delicious, especially when topped with something sweet like cinnamon butter or lemon curd.

  1. Sweet Little Things

Just a couple of minutes’ walk from the Thermae Bath House, you’ll find the prettiest tea room and bakery in Bath. The bakes are as beautiful as the pink-soaked flower displays inside Sweet Little Things, and they taste pretty good too. This is the perfect spot for afternoon tea, but you can also settle in for bottomless brunch or pick up a brownie or blondie to take away.

  1. Bertinet Bakery

The well-established Bertinet Bakery is famous for its sourdough bread, but it’s also a reliable spot to pick up something sweet. Pop into this welcoming, traditional bakery on New Bond Street Place, close to our Milsom Retreat apartment, for patisserie, pastries and great coffee.

  1. Ben’s Cookies

If your indulgence of preference is cookies, you’ll be in heaven at the Bath branch of Ben’s Cookies. This amazing smelling Union Passage cookie shop has over 20 melting, chocolatey varieties to choose from.

  1. DidiCakes

This artisan cakemaker specialises in handmade celebration cakes, so it’s the perfect place to order a bespoke cake for a special occasion. The family-owned DidiCakes is also known for its wonderful cupcakes, including unique cupcake bouquets. You’ll find it on Walcot Street, just up the road from our Old Orchard apartment. But if you can’t make it into the shop, there’s a handy delivery service too.

  1. Nata & Co

Never tried a Pastel de Nata? These creamy Portuguese custard tarts are simply irresistible, and Nata & Co do some of the best in the city.   Visit this Bridge Street bakery for your Nata hit, you’ll find it just across the famous Pulteney Bridge from our Argyle Retreat and Argyle Upon Avon apartments.

  1. Cascara Bath

This cosy vegan eatery on Upper Borough Walls not only serves amazing coffee. It’s also known locally for its scrumptious handmade vegan bakes, including huge gluten-free brownies, doughnuts, cinnamon knots and almond croissants.
