Shopping for plants? A guide to the best garden centres in Bath

If you’re coming to Bath and love the idea of browsing beautiful new plants for your garden at home, you’re in luck. The city is home to a host of fantastic garden centres, including a few hidden gems. Here’s our roundup of the best in the city:

The Urban Garden

One of the newest and smallest garden centres in Bath, the Urban Garden has already become a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike. It’s compact but well-stocked shop includes outdoor plants sourced from the B&NES Council nursery team. You’ll find container grown plants for window boxes and smaller courtyard gardens, along with edibles, herbs, perennials and some unusual annuals. The Urban Garden also has house plants, pots, peat-free compost, organic fertilisers, seasonal plant gifts, bird feed and much more. 

It’s a social enterprise run for the benefit of the community, which offers horticultural training and workshops along with its plant shop.

Hillier Garden Centre Bath

Hillier have a network of excellent garden centres across the south of England. It’s Bath branch is just outside the city centre, overlooking the gorgeous Somerset countryside. 

The garden centre has been providing visitors with quality plants for over 20 years, many of which are grown at Hillier’s own Hampshire nurseries. Along with the plants, the centre also boasts its own Mulberry and Thyme restaurant and a wide range of homeware, gifts and garden items for sale. 

Find the Hillier Garden Centre on Whiteway Road, around 3 miles from Bath city centre. 

Prior Park Garden and Pet Centre

The Prior Park Garden Centre is a shopping experience and an afternoon out all in one, with lots for the whole family to enjoy. Across its beautifully landscaped site just to the south of the city centre, you can browse countless seasonal plants, fruit trees, roses and more. 

There’s a garden shop,  specialist pet and aquatics centre, farm shop and even the Secret Garden cafe for a spot of lunch.

Gardenalia

Gardenalia in the Camden neighbourhood of Bath is a different kind of garden centre. It stocks an eclectic mix of antique and modern garden furniture and ornaments, along with seasonal perennials, small vegetables, herbs and seeds. It’s well worth a visit just to browse, even if you’re not planning to buy anything. 

Find Gardenalia on Mile End Road, not too far from our luxurious Camden Crescent apartment. 

Bathford Nurseries and Garden Centre

Bathford Nurseries is well worth the trip just outside of the city centre, as it’s bursting with hundreds of varieties of plants, shrubs, seasonal flowers, hanging baskets and much more. It’s also a great place to come for expert gardening advice, along with tools, accessories and garden décor.
