There is a private parking space for one car with further unrestricted parking close by. Bath city centre is a 10 minute bus ride (or 20 minute walk). With a wonderfully peaceful place to stay and an exciting city to explore, it`s possible to have your cake and eat it. Awarded 4 star gold by the British Tourist Board.The house is part of a unique and secluded terrace on a hill, originally built in 1851. It has been renovated throughout in 2009 by the deft hand of a fashion designer with great flair and warmth. The house mixes comfortable contemporary furnishings with delightful antiques for a stylish and relaxed atmosphere.
A short path along the terrace leads through a sunny planted south-west facing courtyard, to the main entrance. The main living area on the ground floor has been opened up to let light flood through and has a dining room at one end, living room at the other, with the kitchen sandwiched in between. Oak floors and under floor heating on the ground level and plush mink carpets add to the luxury. The sunny dining room overlooking the serene lavender filled courtyard, has a large French style table to seat 8 and an antique cabinet with tablemats and games.
The fully fitted galley style kitchen has deep polished stone surfaces and smart painted cupboards choc full of sparkling crockery and utensils. A coffee machine, tempting array of cookbooks and a garden seat could take up the whole morning. There is a generous 5 ring gas hob in the old fireplace, an electric oven, a combined microwave and conventional oven, a dishwasher and washing machine. (with a pull out line in the garden or clothes dryer) The sink incorporates a built-in water filter and softener.
The stylish living area has 2 large skylights and a wall of glazed doors that open onto a paved terrace and garden. A smart Conran sofa with chaise seats 3, another large sofa seats 3 and there are two designer easy chairs. On the wall is a large flat screen TV and a long storage unit for DVD and films, CD`s and sound system, and books and WiFi. There`s even a vintage cocktail cabinet with a glittering collection of glassware. Outside is a pretty little terraced garden with lawns, planting and a gate leading to the parking area. An outdoor table and seating for 8 is perfect for evening drinks and dining alfresco.
A compact downstairs cloakroom has a hand basin with storage and a WC. Up a flight of steps on the half-landing is a smart grey and white family bathroom with a bath (with shower over) hand basin, WC and lots of fitted storage.
On the first floor, a wall of lovely painted ladies leads to the spacious master bedroom.
In this impressive room, a lavish 5` antique bed faces 3 dramatic windows with wonderful views of trees, courtyards, winding ribbons of Bath stone terraces and rolling green hills. A wall of fitted storage provides lots of hanging and drawer space.
There`s also another double room with a scenic papered feature wall of an exotic city-scape surrounding an original stone decorative fireplace. There is a vintage double bed (4`6``), a chest of drawers, a small built-in wardrobe and pretty views of gardens, Victorian terraces and the green hills of Upper Swainswick.
At the top of the house, light pours in from 4 skylights and the views are wonderful. An inviting bookcase on the landing has a broad range of reading material and there are a further 2 bedrooms. On this level is a fully tiled shower room with a walk-in shower, WC and hand basin with storage under.
First is an elegant double room with high ceilings reaching up to the eaves, an original decorative fireplace and a pearly papered feature wall. This room has a comfortable 4`6` double bed, a chest of drawers, a small built-in wardrobe and pretty views.
Finally there is a spacious twin bedroom under the eaves with 2 windows and extensive south westerly views. The two single beds zip and link to become a 5`bed. On the wall surrounding the remains of an old decorative fireplace is pale toile wallpaper with striking imagery. An integral cupboard provides hanging space and there is a chest of drawers.
Locals rarely go into Town since Larkhall village centre is a 5 minute walk and has outstanding local amenities including an excellent deli, organic butchers, greengrocers, Co-op supermarket, newsagent, post office, coffee shop, wine tasting and store, Chinese and Indian take-aways, as well as a burger bar. The Larkhall Inn is a local pub with beer garden and there`s even a little theatre - The Rondo. The city centre is easy to access with a bus stop 50 yards up the hill from the house. Number 6 and 7 are frequent services and will take you to the city center and bus station in 10 minutes. Alternatively, it`s a wonderful 20 minute walk winding through the houses with handsome crescents and great views. En route is The King William Pub with excellent British food. There are country walks into Charlcombe Vale from the doorstep and The Richmond Arms, a gastro Pub is a good destination. Alice Park (10 mins. walk) is popular with families, and has a large adventure play area for children, a good cafe and tennis courts.
Bath has outstanding Architecture, many famous historic sites, fascinating museums and galleries and great shopping. It`s a small city and easy to access on foot. Its host to many literary, music and food festivals, there are lovely parks for picnics, hot air balloon rides, mini-golf, The Egg children`s theatre and interesting workshops for children. The Thermae Spa is a grown-up treat or the Theatre Royal or Komedia Comedy Club for an evening out.
